The wireless measurement systems produced by IR Telemetrics, Inc. in Hancock, MI have been nominated for the 2024 Coolest Thing Made in Michigan People’s Choice Award hosted by the Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) and sponsored by Endeavor IT.
Cool products are made by Michigan manufacturers every day. The Coolest Thing Made in Michigan is part of the MMA’s Manufacturing Excellence Awards program, which celebrates the contributions manufacturers make to Michigan’s economy and local communities.
The wireless systems produced by IR Telemetrics are custom made for each project right here in the Copper Country. A patented measurement system designed and created by the engineers and technicians at IR Telemetrics can be placed on pistons, gears, and shafts inside a working engine. The wireless systems then send data back to engineers and researchers about what is going on inside the engine. Their wireless systems have been used in engineering research and design projects across the US and around the world.
“I love my job here at IR Telemetrics,” says mechanical engineer, Ron Kyllonen “Other wireless systems exist, but they’re one size fits all kind of products that aren’t specifically designed to fit or function in each unique environment and project like the wireless systems we make here. We listen to the customer and create a product that meets their needs and is tested to work in harsh environments or on moving parts. Nobody else does what we do. It’s such a cool thing to be a part of.”
Two rounds of people’s choice voting will determine the Top 10 and Top 3 Michigan-made products, with the final “Coolest” winner being revealed at the 2024 Manufacturing Excellence Awards on Nov. 6, 2024 at The Lansing Center in Lansing.
Round 1 of voting runs Aug. 19 through Aug. 30, 2024. Anyone can vote daily for up to four products at micoolestthing.org and help determine which products make it into the Top Ten of Round 2 and, ultimately, the winner of the 2024 Coolest Thing Made in Michigan.
Round 2 will open Monday, Sept. 9, 2024.
